Derrill Burham Pratt was born in Walhalla, South Carolina, on January 10, 1888, and moved to Pell City with his family in 1902. Del played football at the University of Alabama between 1907 and 1910 where he was a running and drop-kicking star. He started his pro baseball career in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and went to the majors in 1912 with the St. Louis Browns. He went with the New York Yankees in 1918, Boston in 1921 and Detroit in 1923. He was the first big league star who had graduated from Alabama. Del Pratt is deceased.
