Hoyt (Wu) Winslett was born January 22, 1904 at Horseshoe Bend, Alabama. "Wu" was in the junior class that started football at Tallapoosa County High in Dadeville. He went on to the University of Alabama and never played a losing game in 1924, 1925 and 1926. Those 3 years saw the Crimson Tide win 3 Southern Conference championships and 2 national titles in the Rose Bowl. "Wu" was a triple threat, a great runner who was the first Associated Press All-American from the South. He worked in the insurance business until 1969 when he retired to live in Tuscaloosa. He passed away in 1998.
