Edward Raymond Stanky was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 3, 1917. Eddie was called "The Brat from Kensington," his old Philadelphia neighborhood, by a New York sports writer. He was a brilliant baseball player from 1935 to 1953 in the professional leagues-with a National League record for most bases on balls, leading the league in 3 seasons. He was most valuable player in the American Association in 1942. In 1951 he started managing and coaching. He wound up coaching baseball at the University of South Alabama from 1969 to 1983. He is deceased.
