Charles Evart Street was born September 30, 1882, in Huntsville, Alabama. He stepped into professional baseball in 1900 and ended his active career in 1928. He was Walter Johnson's favorite catcher 4 years at Washington and then caught one season for the Yankees. Earlier he had worked briefly for Boston and Cincinnati in the National League. He was a manager for 18 years with 8 minor league teams and 4 major league teams. "Gabby" was also a baseball broadcaster for the Cardinals in St. Louis. He is deceased.
