George Foster – Born in 1949 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Played 17 years in the major leagues (1969-’86) for four teams (San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, and Chicago White Sox). Led the National League in home runs two consecutive years (1977 & ’78). Led the National League in RBI’s three consecutive years, which tied a major league record (1976, ’77, & ’78). Was named Most Valuable Player of the National League for the 1977 season. His stats for the ‘77 seasons were: batted .320, led the league in home runs 52, RBI’s 149, runs 124, total bases 388 and slugging .631. (At that time he became only the seventh player in the National League to have hit 50 or more home runs in a season). Played in five All-Star games (1976, ’77, ’78, ’79, & ’81). He was named MVP of the 1976 All-Star game in which he had a home run and drove in three runs. In 1977 his 31 road home runs set a major league record for right handed batters. Played in three World Series for the Cincinnati Reds. Played in 13 World Series games and had a batting average of .326 with six RBI’s. When he retired he was tied for tenth in career grand slams with 13. His career stats were batting average of .274, home runs 348 and RBI’s 1,239. He is a member of the Cincinnati Reds All Time Roster.
