He played collegiately at Auburn.  He was named to two consecutive All SEC defensive teams.  He was named Honorable Mention All-American Defensive Team (‘67).  He was named Second Team All-American Defensive Team (‘68).  Chosen Most Valuable Player in the ‘68 Sun Bowl.  He started every game in his career.  He was first team consensus All-American Safety in '69, named to seven All-American teams.  Is the all-time Auburn leader in career interceptions (18) and single-season interceptions with nine.  He was named to both the Academic All-American team and the Academic All-SEC Team in ‘69.
