Born on September 26, 1929 in Northport, Alabama .  He played collegiately at the University of Alabama .  One of three players named to both the football and baseball All-Century Teams at the University of Alabama .  He still holds UA single-season record for touchdown receptions with ten.  First-team All-SEC (UPI) in 1950.  Ranks fourth on career touchdown list with 14.  In ‘50 he compiled a 4-1 (.800) record as a starting pitcher for the Crimson Tide baseball team.  In ‘51 he compiled a record of 6-2 (.750).  He ranks fourth in fewest hits allowed in a season (13) with a minimum of 40 innings pitched.  He played two seasons in the majors with the Chicago Cubs in ‘54 and ‘62.  He passed away on July 10, 2001.
