Born January 25, 1954 in Huntsville, AL .  He accepted a scholarship to the University of Tennessee to play both football and baseball.  He was named SEC Sophomore and Junior of the Year (1972 and ‘73) and also was All-SEC in ‘73.  He was the MVP of the ‘72 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl and the ‘75 Hula Bowl.  He ended his career with the best career interception-to-attempt ratio in Tennessee history, throwing just 12 interceptions in 407 attempts.  This record still stands.  In ‘91 he was named to the UT’s 100th anniversary team.  As a baseball player he earned All-American and All-SEC honors in ‘75 as the Vols shortstop.  He ranks ninth on UT’s career hitting list with a .353 average.  He was selected to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the University Tennessee Baseball Wall of Fame in 2000.He signed with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the CFL and played 13 seasons in the league also playing for Toronto and British Columbia .  He threw for over 25,000 yards and rushed for another 3,167 while scoring 168 touchdowns (155 passing and 13 rushing).  His pass completion percentage for his career was 56.4.  In 1982 he was named CFL Most Valuable Player while playing for the Toronto Argonauts.  He led the Argonauts to the Grey Cup Championship in 1983, the first time in 31 years that Toronto had captured the Championship.  He was also a member of the Ottawa Rough Riders Grey Cup Championship team in ’76.  He was selected to the CFL Hall of Fame in 1998.  He presently is the Assistant Athletic Director for Player Relations at Tennessee .
