Birthplace: Atmore, AL

Born May 6, 1958 in Atmore, AL . He played collegiately at the University of Alabama .  He was a member of two consecutive National Championship teams for the Crimson Tide (1978 & ’79).  He was named team captain of the ’79 team.  Named to Alabama All-Centennial Team (’92).  In 1980 he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and played ten years in the NFL all with the Dolphins.  He played in two Super Bowls with the Dolphins (’82 & ’84).  In both of those seasons he was named Dolphins Player of the Year.  He was named to Dolphins Silver Anniversary Team (’96).  He will best be known for two plays, one during his days at Alabama and the other with the Dolphins.  Alabama fans will remember him for his stop of Scott Fisky of Penn State on the one yard line on second down during the famous "Goal Line Stand" in the 1978 Sugar Bowl.  Dolphins’ fans will remember him for a play in Super Bowl XVII on a third down and inches where Washington Redskins running back John Riggins ran off tackle and right through his arms for the winning touchdown.  He is an ordained minister and is the Counseling Pastor at New Testament Baptist Church in Coral Gables, FL.   He is also a spokesman for Sports World Ministries.
