John Bridgers was born January 13, 1922 in Birmingham, AL. Received a football scholarship to Auburn in 1940. Began coaching in 1946 as a graduate assistant at Auburn. In 1947 named head track coach and offensive and defensive line coach for the University of the South. In 1953 he became head football coach at Johns Hopkins University.In 1957 he became a member of the coaching staff at the Baltimore Colts. The Colts won the World Championships in 1958. He was head football coach and athletics director at Baylor from 1959-1968. From 1973-1979 he was the athletic director at Florida State, He completed his career in athletics as athletic director at the University of New Mexico from 1979-87. He passed away in 2006.
