Neil "Dick" McGowen was born August 19, 1919 in Sipsey, Alabama. "Dick" played football and baseball at Auburn from 1937 to 1940. In 1939 he was an All-Southeastern Conference halfback and set a national record of more than 50 punts in one season, kicking 92 times for an average of 43.03 yards. In 1940 he had 80 kicks for a 43.55 yards average. He joined the Auburn coaching staff in 1949 and stayed until 1956 when he became an insurance executive. He is deceased.
