Tommie Agee was born August 9, 1942 in Magnolia, AL. Started his professional career in 1961 playing briefly in the minors. In 1966 he was named Rookie of the Year with the Chicago White Sox, batting .273 and hitting 22 home runs. He was named to the American League All-Star team in 1966 and 1967. In 1968 he was traded to the New York Mets and in 1969 led the Mets to the 1969 World Series. He hit .271 that season and led the team in home runs (26), RBI’s (76) and runs scored (97). In the third game of the World Series he made two great catches that saved the game and rank with the greatest in baseball history. He died on January 22, 2001.
