Born in Louisiana in 1942. His remarkable skills as an orthopedic surgeon and his outstanding contributions to the research, prevention, and treatment of sports-related injuries have made Dr. James R. Andrews one of the world’s premier authorities on sports medicine. He and his colleagues have made major medical presentations on every continent. Through his own medical enterprise and that of the more than 100 orthopedic/sports medicine physicians he has trained, countless athletes in the high school, college, and professional ranks have overcome injury to reach their performance potential. An orthopedic consultant for several professional sports teams and associations, including the USOC, LPGA, and NCAA, he is also team physician for Troy State and Livingston Universities in Alabama. As chairman and Medical Director of the American Sports Medicine Institute, the civic-minded Dr. Andrews has helped to make Alabama one of the foremost centers in the world for sports medicine research and treatment.
