Holt Rast was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 17, 1917. At the University of Alabama, from 1937 to 1942 he became an All-Time All-American end with 3 letters in football and was an All-American 1941. He was in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and was twice wounded. He received the Purple Heart and Cluster Award, Bronze Star and Silver Star. Holt served as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1958 to 1966. Governor Wallace appointed him to assist in developing the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He is deceased.
