John Mitchell was born October 14 1951 in Mobile,AL. He was a two-time JuniorCollege All-American at Eastern Arizona Junior College. He transferred to the University ofAlabama. He was Alabama’s first African-AmericanAll-American in ’72. He was a twotime All-SEC Player and a member of the Kodak All-American Team in ’72. He was elected Team Co-Captain. His statistics show 125 tackles with 12behind the line of scrimmage, eight sacks, and caused five fumbles recoveringone. He has been an assistantcoach in both the college and professional ranks. He became the first African-American defensive coordinator inSEC history in 1990 at LSU. Forthe past 15 years, he has been a member of Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staffand has been a part of the Steelers two Super Bowl victories in 2006 and 2008.
