Larry Gene Nelson was born September 10, 1947, Ft. Payne, Alabama. One of America's premier professional golfers although he did not take up the game until he was in his early 20's. He's the only Alabamian to have won 3 major tournaments; The PGA in 1981 and 1987, and the U.S. Open in 1983 when he set an Open record for the last two rounds by shooting a brilliant 10 under par 132. He won a total of 10 tournaments on the PGA Tour and was chosen for the Ryder Cup Team in 1979, 1981 and 1987. He joined the Senior Tour in 1997 and won the Bruno’s Memorial Classic in 1999. Was the leading money winner and Player of the Year on tour in 2000. He resides in Marietta, Ga.
