Played collegiately at Auburn (1985-’86).  Has won the Alabama Women’s State Amateur five times (’89, ’93, ’94, ’95, & ’98).  Won the USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur (’98).  Won the Southatlantic Amateur (’98).  Won the Women’s Southern Amateur twice (’87 & ’96).  Playing member of the United States Curtis Cup Team two years (1998 & 2000) (record 3-1-2).  Member of the ’97 Alabama team that won the USGA State Team Championship.  Won the ’80 Women’s Alabama State Junior Championship.
Coached the Auburn University Women’s Golf Team (‘91-’94).  Inducted into the “Tiger Trail of Auburn” (2002).  Elected to the United States Women’s Committee of the USGA.  The Women’s Alabama Golf Association Foundation Trust Four-Ball Tournament was renamed as the Virginia Derby Grimes Scholarship Classic in’99.  The Auburn Tiger (Women’s) Golf Invitational was renamed as the Auburn Tiger Derby Invitational in ‘98.
