Born October 12, 1960 in
Birmingham, AL. He had a great prep career at
Berry
High School (now
Hoover ). He then accepted a golf scholarship to the
University of
Alabama , where he played for legendary Coach Conrad Rehling (ASHOF Class of 1999). In 1982 and ’83 he was the SEC player of the Year and All American both years. He is the first player in history of
Alabama golf to have won both the State Open and the State Amateur in the same year (1981). He turned professional and in 1992 he won the Ben Hogan Tulsa Open on the Ben Hogan Tour (presently the Nationwide Tour). On the PGA Tour he has won three times all in playoffs. In February of this year he won the 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National PRO-AM. He defeated Vijay Singh in a one hole playoff by making a seven foot birdie putt. His two other victories came at the 1994 Sprint International and the 2000 Southern Farm Bureau Classic. In the opening round of the 1994 Tour Championship he had a hole-in-one which was only the second hole-in-one in the history of Tour Championship. He has finished second nine times, third ten times, sixty four top tens and 138 top 25. He presently ranks in the top 50 on the all time PGA money list.
