Billy Bancroft was an athlete at Woodlawn High School before going on to a successful football career from 1924-1928 at Howard College. He stayed on as coach, serving as head coach from 1934-1939. In 1935, Howard tied the University of Alabama 7-7. In the off-season, he played baseball for two Dixie Series winners Birmingham (1931) and Oklahoma City (1935). He managed Selma’s baseball team in 1940 and Gadsden in 1941. After serving his war duty, he coached at Anniston High School from 1946-1958. From 1958-1970 he was boys’ advisor at Woodlawn High School before retiring.
