He was a starting left halfback on Auburn’s football team in 1952, 1953, 1954 and 1955. He gained All-American status as a senior. As a freshman he was third in the nation in kickoff returns. As a sophomore he led the SEC with 6.7 yards per carry; his overall career mark was 5.5 yards per carry. In 1955 Fob James was the Atlanta Touchdown Club’s Southeastern Conference of the Year. He served as Governor of the State of Alabama from 1978-1982 and 1995-1998.
