Virgil Trucks played pro baseball in the majors for 17 years. He pitched for the Detroit Tigers from 1941-1952 and also played for the St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox, Kansas City Athletics, and New York Yankees. He retired in 1958 with a career pitching record of 177-135 (.568) and recorded 1,532 strikeouts. He pitched 13.1 innings in the 1945 World Series and was credited with winning one game. He pitched in the 1949 and 1954 All-Star games, earning the win in the 1949 edition. During the 1952 season, he threw two no-hitters, the first on May 15, 1952 and the second on August 25, 1952.
